As this project is going to be handed in through digital submission I wanted to create a moving image piece that would be more interactive and immersive so the viewer would feel closer to the locations that I have been photographing. I also thought that it would be a good way of showing me exploring the locations that I have been photographing. With the added sound of the wind and the waves, I want to bring the viewer closer to the images by stimulating more than one sense.
My friend Matthew came out with me a couple of times when I was shooting this body of work. He is a filmmaker and we often work together to create moving image and photographs. I asked him if he could follow me around a little with the camera rolling to see what we could get. I wanted to add this between the sequence of images to make the viewer feel like they are on a journey. But also to help enforce the feeling of isolation, seeing me walking in the middle of the more indicates how small and insignificant my footsteps are in the locations that I have shot in this body of work.
I put this sequence together in Premiere Pro. Software that I do not have much experience in but I am slowly working my way through learning how to make video and sequences like this. There are also two audio clips throughout the sequence. One of the ocean and one of the wind. I edited the audio so that the sound of the waves only came in and out of the sequence over the images of the coast. I did this to enforce the feeling of being where the image was taken, likewise with the wind blowing on the moors. I did record some of my own audio when I was out and about on my phone, however, the quality was not that great so I decided to use some royalty-free clips I downloaded from Youtube for a higher quality of audio.
Overall, I am happy with the outcome of this sequence. I think that it immerses the viewer into the realm of thought that I am trying to create. This will be displayed on my website next to the text and photographs so that the viewer can take their time to look through it all. I am happy with the skills that this has taught me and I feel like it is something that I may develop in the future.
