Daniel Dayment is a documentary photographer located in the South West of the UK. Taking on visual inquiries of the land and man’s connection with it, Daniel explores the power that the natural world has to us in the physical and metaphysical sense. Being immersed in whatever he is photographing is Daniels primary goal when he is making photographs as he believes it’s paramount to be a part of and connected to what he is capturing. Whether that be standing in a knee-deep bog on Dartmoor or clambering over the coastline cliffs to capture the moments he finds himself in. The connection that he has with the land is innate and he endeavours to express this through his passion for photography and storytelling.
Daniel’s work often starts with a question or area of interest on which he wants to educate himself. This stems investigative projects which strive to take the viewer on the same visual exploration that Daniel was on when he was looking through the viewfinder. This technique is designed to bring the viewer into the piece of work and feel connected to the moments that Daniel was in the moment he released the shutter of his camera.
Currently studying BA Photography is allowing Daniel time to grow and develop his visual identity which is the catalyst for the career in picture-making he is striving for.

Below are a few Artist statements that I thought I would gather some inspiration from. A combination of commercial and fine art photographs all seem to have a similar approach when it comes to talking about themselves. Short and sweet seems to be the trend with the three below and only a sentence or two on what their photographic practice is about. I think this is because we are photographers and our portfolios do most of the talking for us. When I was writing my statement, I was thinking about how best to describe my practice and the motivation behind the work that I produce.
